EMERGENCY COASTAL WORKS, AVON AND FRIARS BEACHES, CHRISTCHURCH

Scope of work:    

Emergency repairs to the promenade and rock armour to protect existing defences at Avon Beach. Rebuilding of groynes at Friars Cliff Beach.

Contract included:    

• Repairs to the seawall
• Fill voids to promenade with reinforced concrete
• Fix the concrete canvas to the failed sheet piles
• Supply & place 1,500 tonnes of locally sourced rock armour to protect seawall/concrete terracing and rebuild 3 no. groynes
• Demolition and disposal of 50 storm damaged timber beach huts
• Clear debris from the beach and re-profile sand/shingle
• Survey promenade to identify potential undiscovered voids
